The arrival of the month of March will come as a welcome relief to most people as it hopefully means that better weather is on the way.
Spring signifies the start of warmer days (we are being optimistic) and lighter evenings, not forgetting the time of the annual spring clean.
Make a start at getting your home in order this weekend ahead of those extra daylight hours by taking the following plan of action:
1. Throw away or donate any unwanted items
Did you get any Christmas presents that you didn’t particularly like? Enough time has probably passed for you to discreetly get rid of them without the person/s who gave it to you noticing. Any other clutter that has built up since the start of the autumn/winter season should also be disposed of either by throwing it away or donating to the nearest charity shop.
2. Polish, dust, hoover
Deep clean your carpet to remove any traces of dirt brought in by muddy feet over the past few months, or take a mop to wooden flooring, give any ornaments and items on shelving a thorough polish and dusting, and don’t stop until everything is gleaming.
3. Update your cushions, covers and bedding
Even subtle changes can help your home look the part for spring such as purchasing some new cushions and/or a fresh throw for your sofa or changing your existing duvet cover. Opt for colourful and vibrant colours as opposed to darker colours which you more associate with autumn/winter.
4. Create a sensational scent
Leave your home smelling as good as it looks by placing a scented plug-in within each of the most important rooms in the house and taking some air freshener to them regularly. Open your windows too on warm days to let some fresh air circulate its way around the space.
5. Sort out the garden
Your garden may have been left untouched for several months and showing evidence of it. Anything that has overgrown in the intervening period should be removed and the lawn/s given a thorough cut with the mower.
