Ways To Reduce The Amount Of Water You Consume In The Home

Author: Conservatories & Double Glazing Expert  |  Leave a Comment >>

As most of you will already be aware, large parts of the country have been hit by droughts which has led to several hosepipe bans being put in place. The very dry, mild winter we have just experienced is one of the main reasons why there are vast water shortages, particularly in South East of the UK.
Despite this and the fact that during 2010 and 2011, 3,365 litres were lost through leaks every day through the water systems at many of our major water companies, the water regulator Ofwat has announced that such leaks do not need to be cut until 2015.
This will come as a serious blow to those who are currently unable to water their garden in the most conventional manner or whom are being affected by expensive water bills. It has even been rumoured that the current hosepipe bans could stay enforced until Christmas at the earliest.
Those looking for a solution to expensive water bills should take the following steps to help make water go a longer way:
• Turn off the tap when brushing your teeth, never leave it running. The same goes for when you are washing up.
• Collect any rainwater and use it for watering your garden.
• Reduce the amount of time you spend in the shower and cut down on the number of baths you take during the year.
• Only flush the toilet as and when you have to as over-flushing will consume an enormous amount of water.
• Make use of any cold water generated when waiting for water to turn piping hot.
There are many other ways of saving money on water bills which will provide you with part of the cash you need to purchase conservatories in Bury, conservatories in Manchester and conservatories in Merseyside.
